Fileout problem

Hi, as you may know I try to implement selfUnit. I'm ready to distribute a beta version, but I have some problems to create the files. For necessary error handling I made a clone of the prototype process. I made a slot in globals called selfUnitProcess and I initialize it to process _Clone. So far it works fine. This slot is assigned to a module named selfUnitProcessing. I add three slot to that prototype and all of them are assigned to the module selfUnitProcessing. All slots are initialized to false. When I fileOut the module and look into the generated code, then there is no code generated for these slots. I checked the annotations and the module is correctly displayed. When you move the slots to another module, like tmp, then the tmp module will recognise that change, but also in that fileOut the code is still missing. I tried out several circumstances and it seams to me that _Clone message is the root of my problems. Unfortunately I have no chance to use the normal copy mechanism. Can anybody give me a hint? Snapshot binary compatibility ?

Hi all, could anyone who is lucky enough to own a Sparc and a Mac tell me if it's possible to exchange snapshots between these two platforms ? One reason why the sparc-Snapshots don't work on Linux/Intel is of course the different endianess of the architectures, but this could easily be converted. If the snapshots work on Sparc and Mac, I'll try to add this feature for the Linux version. Best regards, Harald Gliebe

Self4Linux 0.2.2

I just uploaded a new version of the linux port to http://www.gliebe.de/self. This version is now based on the 4.1.5 release from David Ungar. It also contains some bugfixes and is hopefully more stable than the previous version. Best regards, Harald Gliebe

Here the is the first version of unit testing for self. The problem with the file out that I reported last times, is still not fixed but I have modified the files so that everything is in their right now. To install it use the self shell and do: bootstrap read: 'selfUnitProcessing' From: 'applications'. bootstrap read: 'selfUnit' From: 'applications'. bootstrap read: 'selfUnitExamples' From: 'applications'. This version has no GUI right now and it is a port of the sUnit 3.0 implementation. I hope I can make the GUI in next two weeks. If you want to know more about unit testing look at: http://www.junit.org (the java version), http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?UnitTests In the moment I haven't a good idea how I can implement should: aBlock raise: aSignal or shouldNot: aBlock raise: aSignal. Right now I only differ between errors and failures. A failure occurs when a result of a message send is not like you anticipated. An error is when the message breaks during its computation. I catch all errors, failures and count them. To create a new unit test: - create a copy down child of the prototype testCase - create new slots named test* (see the example or the tests for the framework) - send buildSuite to the testCase object, the result is a testSuite - send run to the testSuite and the result is a testResult The test result contains three sets. One for errors, one for failures and one for successes. In this sets are the corresponding testCases. You can also send run to a single test case. So please send me your comments and please consider that I'm not a self guru ;-) PS: The file area of the yahoo group was and is still not accessible at least for me. So sending them to the list was the only practical way. Sorry for that.

Hello folks, I have released a version of Guru for Self 4.1 Guru is a tool for automated refactoring of Self programs available from http://selfguru.sf.net I've only tried it using the Linux port of Self - I'd be grateful for any feedback about whether it works at all on other platforms. It's only a partially working port - I thought it was working enough to give anyone interested an idea of what Guru does. Ivan

Reflection

Does anybody know how I can get all methods (as a list of strings or mirrors) which an object can understand. I try to find something in the system, but the only thing that I found was at traits findSlotEnumrationMorph action and for that method is was to stupid. I looked at browse, browseWellKnown, mirrors but maybe I was blind. Can anybody help?
