Thank you for your help. I can now make windows, draw graphics, but I cannot assign colors. For a line I do: bitmap line: 0@0 To: 100@100 Color: color. To "color" i can assign different values as: Exmpl: in windoid do: color: color red: 100 But when I draw another line, it still has the same color. I only can change the color, when I change the index, but it still will not be red. Thank you for any help. Sandor

Self 3.0 is available only for SPARC. It could, in theory, be ported to other processor architectures, but Urs estimates it would take about six months of effort. Please let us know if you undertake such a effort! If you want to play with Self and you have access to a Sun somewhere on your net, you can run Self remotely and use X to make the Self UI display on your HP's screen. Performance is reasonable unless you have a heavily loaded net. -- John

Try: windoid copy: '3 printLine' This makes a little window that acts like a button. To look at this code, type "windoid" in an evaluator. Sprout the parent slot to see the methods in the traits object. Sorry, I don't have the released system handy to try this out, but perhaps it will point you in the right direction. -- John

Is there a good comparison article of Self vs. Smalltalk? I don't own a Sparc Station, if I wanted to play with Self is the source code available for porting? If the Self source code is available, what are the restrictions from commercial use? Thanks very much Cam Elliott cam(a)elliott.wa.com

Graphics Libary Reference

Is there any reference manual which illustrate the use of windows, menues etc. I know that all that information is available from the browser/lobby, but it takes too much time and effort. The Self 3.0 Programmer's Reference Manual does not cover those objects. P.S. How much work is done on/in Self. There does not appear to be too much mail activity. i.e. Will Sun spend any more money on its development.
