[Ann] Travis-CI integration for VM

Hi,

Just a quick note that I finished something Tobias started a while back which is to integrate with travis-ci.org <http://travis-ci.org/> (which is a free CI/continuous integration service for open source software) so that on every push to the main sources on GitHub, we do a test build of the VM on Linux and macOS with gcc and clang and display a nice build status image.

It was a bit fiddly but now seems to be working OK.
