The readability is due to the annotations, we had a discussion on them before, if you want to google ;)
Writing Self outside of the Environment is a pain in the ass, but filing out is useful to use in company with version control.
But then not using the tools that the environment provides would be dumb anyways ^^ the base image is probably the best IDE I have ever encountered :D
