To me the smalltalk Object browser always seemed like the macbook wheel, just press at both sides and you get a alphabetically sorted list of everything on the computer ;), whearas self is more like a graph.
In self the journey starts at your garage. In smalltalk it starts at a giant mainstation where everything is located :).
As for the search engines, they are all there.:D
In my experience it is best to start at a basic method, like drawing, and then look inside it to see what it uses. Look at the slot of interest by marking it, then right click and choose the "search engine" you want. You can search in the object, in all objects, in ancestors e.t.c
