Each year, Google selects a number of projects which enhance open source
software and pay students to work on them for three months. Each student
has a mentor from some organization to oversee the work. This year the
various Smalltalk groups decided it would be best to have Esug as the
only organization sending proposals to Google.

After some discussion, it was decided that the definition of "Smalltalk"
should be broad enough to include stuff like Newspeak. In this case,
Self is certainly a Smalltalk. If anyone here has any idea for a project
that fits into the proposed organization, please get in touch with the
administrators listed on that page. The deadline for sending a proposal
to Google is on the 12th. Note that students can also propose ideas and
that deadline is a bit further off.
