This is a great idea. Quick question on your approach, are you planning on writing an OpenGL wrapper object(s) in like the os  namespace or are you going to focus on only the backing bits for morphic?

The reason I ask is I've done the OpenGL bindings for other languages and found it rather painful to do in a portable way due to wide variations in vendor support for various versions of the family of OpenGL APIs.   With the ES profiles becoming increasingly important to support, limiting the scope of this project to just the essentials becomes an interesting and necessary design consideration. 

If you would like some help I'd be happy to share code.
