Self OS X jaguar

I'am french newbie about Self and I've the same problem like Christian !
The last year, (...once upon a time...) I tried self in Mac OS 8 or 8.6 or ...
Now, today...
After download Self in Mac OS X 3.1 (Panther for the family ;-) ) it's imposible for me 
to open Self...

in Terminal (ooooooh I am not a friend of...):
