I haven't used OSX myself, but this

simply means that the Self program couldn't open the named file 
("G4..snap") for reading.

Before that, I would check to see if the file has read permission 
enabled for the user you are executing Self with.

There is a comment on the download page that you should use Carbon 1.1 
with Mac OS X for Self 4.1.3
