Brian,

Since I am both a Self fan and a Beta enthusiast, you can be sure that I am
very interested in how Slate will turn out. Not to mention that I really love
Lisp as well.

One language you might want to look at for inspiration is Cecil, since it tries
to capture the "Self flavor" in a more static environment.

Many of Beta's features depend heavily on lexical scoping, which is almost
entirely lacking in Self (except in blocks), so coming up with something that
combines the best of each language is not trivial.

Good luck!

P.S.: a messages sent to this list from email addresses that are not subscribed
get sent to me for moderation. For example, your first post as "Brian T. Rice"
<water at tunes.org> went directly to the list while your replies as "Brian T.
Rice" <water at tscnet.com> were blocked until I approved them a few minutes ago.
That is a good thing since it has kept spam out of the list. But I will be
without an internet connection until Saturday, so if anyone posts things with
different email addresses it won't show up on the list until then.
